[영시]The night has a thousand eyes(밤은 천의 눈을 갖는다)

우연히 만나게 된 괜찮은 영시. 지은이는 Francis William Bourdillon(1852~1921).
500여편의 시를 남겼다고는 하지만 가장 유명한 것은 이 시 하나 뿐이라던가.

“The night has a thousand eyes,
　　And the day but one;
　Yet the light of the bright world dies
　　With the dying sun.

　The mind has a thousand eyes,
　　And the heart but one:
　Yet the light of a whole life dies
　　When love is done.”

밤은 천의 눈을 갖는다

밤은 천의 눈을 갖고
   낮은 단 하나의 눈을 갖는다.
하지만 밝은 세상의 빛은
   지는 저녁해와 더불어 사라진다.

정신은 천의 눈을 갖고
   마음은 단 하나의 눈을 갖는다.
하지만 인생의 빛은
   사랑이 끝나면 더불어 사라진다.
